Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy is a video game series created by Square-Enix. The games are categorized as RPG games (role playing games) and the series is arguably one of the most popular in the world. The franchise is one of the best selling gaming franchises in the world (sixth place); many of the individual installments in the series hold their own best-selling positions with various consoles, such as Final Fantasy VII being the second-best selling Playstation title to date. At the time of this writing, the series has twelve main installments, with a thirteenth and fourteenth on the way, as well as numerous "side" games (Final Fantasy Tactics; Chocobo Racing; etc.) and spin-offs. Final Fantasy XI and the future Final Fantasy XIV are MMORPGs. The game was developed for the Super Nintendo, the original Final Fantasy. The game was developed by the company then known as Squaresoft (they later merged with Enix to become Square-Enix), who was nearing bankruptcy, and this would be their last game (hence the name). Surprisingly, the game did very well, enough to bring Squaresoft out of bankruptcy and bring on a sequel. However, because of the way they scripted the story of the first Final Fantasy, a direct sequel was difficult to write, so they decided to give the second installment new characters, a new world and a new story, while retaining many similar elements such as the battle system, monsters, spell names, etc. This pattern carried on over to all future installments. Final Fantasy XFinal Fantasy X is the first installment to grace the Playstation 2, and the first Final Fantasy to feature voice-acting. It swept everyone away with its then-amazing graphics, voice acting (the first time in an FF game) and its storyline. While the game did not quite reach the same epic status as older installments of Final Fantasy had, it did do well enough to establish itself as a Greatest Hits title for the PS2. The story revolves around Tidus, a seventeen year old boy who is the star player of his Blitzball team (a made-up sport). However, during a Blitzball game, a dangerous and large monster called Sin attacked his city and destroyed everything. Tidus wakes up to find himself thrown one thousand years in the future. There he finds out that his beloved city had been nothing but rubble for a thousand years, and that Sin was still attacking, killing and destroying. Summoners go on pilgrimmages to obtain powerful aeons (sort of like a mythological creature) from temples in hopes of defeating Sin in a final battle, but many perish. Tidus finds himself as the guardian of one particular young and beautiful summoner, Yuna. The story becomes more complicated as Tidus learns of a strange connection he has with Sin, and he must decide how to cope with that. As well, he begins to fall in love with Yuna, but the two cannot be together, as they are from different times and places, not to mention Yuna was putting her life on the line to try to defeat Sin. other appearancesTidus has appeared in the following games in chronological order:
Final Fantasy XPlatform: Playstation 2 Released in 2001 Final Fantasy X is the first game Tidus appeared in. This game was the first Final Fantasy to grace the Playstation 2. Tidus is the main character, a rising star athlete who gets attacked by a monster named Sin and ends up finding himself hurled a thousand years into the future.
Kingdom HeartsPlatform: Playstation 2 Released in 2002 Kingdom Hearts is an RPG combining Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters into one game. Tidus plays a sort of cameo role, a fourteen year old version of himself, who is a friend of the main character, Sora, on his home island. Tidus also appears in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories (for the Gameboy Advanced) very briefly. Tidus makes no appearance in Kingdom Hearts 2 (Playstation 2), but is mentioned by name.
Final Fantasy X-2Platform: Playstation 2 Released in 2003 Final Fantasy X-2 is a direct sequel to FFX, the very first time a FF game has gotten an actual sequel (where the story, characters and world is the same). Yuna is the main character in this new game, and Tidus takes the backseat for a bit, though he is still a very important figure in the story.
Itadaki Street SpecialPlatform: Playstation 2 Released in 2004 Itadaki Street Special is a board-game video game that features characters from the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. Tidus (along with Auron) are the two Final Fantasy X characters who make it into the game as playable characters.
Final Fantasy DissidiaPlatform: Playstation Portable (PSP) Released in 2009 Final Fantasy Dissidia is a fighting game made for the PSP that features the each of the ten protagonists and antagonists from the first ten Final Fantasy installments, as a part of Square-Enix's FF 20th anniversary campaign. Tidus naturally makes an appearance, as he is the protagonist of FFX. Dream Image is owned and maintained by Jinny and is not to be duplicated or copied in any way.
